Think About The Return

When I read Mattew 24 about the topic of the sign of Christ's return - the future, it reminded me of my childhood. My parents went to a church that preached a lot about this subject—ninety minutes preaching! I remember asking for a KFC before we go to the church. If not, I don't want to go.

Some churches still teach about this. But I also noticed that some other churches intentionally didn't want to teach this subject.

It must be there's a reason behind it. So why do they choose to do it or not? There are no right or wrong answers. So which preference do you want to take?

Here is what I found by myself and how I think.

Focus on the present

How many people got scared because of doomsday, the war, persecutions, chaos, and future things? For me, to imagine itself is scary. Especially if you watch international news, then you know that war is still happening in this world. Some parts of the world struggle with turmoil, hunger, injustice, while others live in peace.

The future indeed seems scary. But, the Bible said, "THIS IS ROUTINE HISTORY." (MSG) the wars, famines, etc. -. - (10) kit will be dog-eat-dog, everyone at each other's throat - seems "Squid Games" is "real." This situation was already happening in Jesus's time, and the same theme is still on repeat.

So, I think that better to focus on what is your hand and circumstances. Focus on what we could control. No one could control the future. But, we could trust God with what is to come.

It doesn't mean you cannot study/teach or want to know more about this matter. Just be wise about what you want to focus on.

The benefit for others?

When we talk about this topic, do we bring benefits for others? Do we help them to be better or make them scare?

For me, I better be simple rather than looks like superficial spirituality - trying to interpret the future. So let's keep it simple. Walk the talk. Do what we are teaching. I think it would be more impactful for ourselves and the people around us.

Be aware.

You could be drawn to the 'superficial spirituality' and know much about interpreting the future. But the Bible said that many people were trapped in confusion and live in fear. Therefore, lying preachers will come and deceive a lot of people.

"Be careful that no one misleads you." Once again, Jesus warned us. That's why it's important to have critical thinking. Do not let your guard down. Pay attention to the teaching that you hear. And double-check by yourself.

Once again, everything is up to you. Do not be trapped by black and white thinking. You are this or that. I believe we need to be wise and choose on how the way we want to live.

Christ's return is for sure, but no one knows when. So do not be fear of the future.

I think people will be easily connected to Jesus through us when we are present, real, and walk the talk.

This post is my personal notes from the Westmark Bible Study assignment. So, every week we read two chapters together and share what we learned or found from them. Let’s learn and grow together.
